What is the difference between a Cub Scout and Boy Scout?
Cub Scouts are Scouts in primary school grades Kindergarten through fifth grade.
Cub Scouting is a family-oriented program designed specifically to address the needs of younger boys and girls.
Boy Scouts are Scouts in secondary school, grades six through 12.

What is a Pack, a Den, and Troop?
Each Cub Scout grade is a Den
All of the Cub Scout grades in entirety is the Pack.
A Troop is the Boy Scout group in entirety.
What are the Dens in Cub Scouts?
Each grade level has an animal or emblem associated with it, this is called a rank
Kindergarten – Lion
First Grade – Tiger
Second Grade – Wolf
Third Grade – Bear
Fourth and Fifth Grade – WEBELOS
What is a Unit, District, Council, National?
UNIT: Pack 457 is a unit, or one group of Scouts in a District.
DISTRICT: Pack 457 is one of 16 Cub Scout Packs in the Matinecock District, which covers all the Packs in Smithtown and Huntington. A districts is a section of a larger region.
COUNCIL: Suffolk County Council overseas all of Suffolk County Scouting and is made up of four Districts.
Matinecock District - Huntington and Smithtown
Sagtikos District - Southwest Suffolk
Benjamin Tallmadge District - Northeast Suffolk
Trailblazer District - Southeast Suffolk
NATIONAL BSA: National Boy Scouts oversees all Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts for the United States.
What is a Charter?
Every Scouting unit “belongs” to a community-based organization like a school, religious institution or service club. which provides leadership, meeting facilities, encouragement, and other support as needed.
